Fraternities and sororities offer an amazing collegiate experience and have been a part of Illinois Wesleyan University since 1866, playing an important role in the lives of thousands of students and alumni. Their educational programs, social activities, service projects, and leadership development opportunities contribute much to the University community. IWU currently has 9 values-based chapters across two governing councils that vary in individual missions; however each chapter was founded on the principles of scholarship, service, leadership and community. The total membership of more than 500 students comprises 30 percent of the campus community.
Illinois Wesleyan Fraternity and Sorority Life is founded on the principles of academic excellence, leadership development, civic engagement, sisterhood/brotherhood, and the development of personal values. Fraternity and sorority life exists to provide opportunities for students in fraternities and sororities to grow and develop successfully through active participation in their organizations. This office provides opportunities for all members regardless of background to cultivate a sense of community on campus. The Office of Student Involvement provides a productive social environment centered on wellness, career networking, and development of positive relationships through educational programs, guidance, and campus-wide collaboration for fraternity and sorority members.
